Rive & Co appoints Dr David Mestres Ridge to lead Energy and Resources practice

AGA law firm member in Tanzania and Zanzibar, Rive & Co has announced that Dr David Mestres Ridge has joined the firm as a new partner.

David brings a rare blend of scientific and legal expertise to Rive & Co, holding degrees in Applied Geology, an MSc in Mining Geology, a PhD in Chemical Engineering, an LLB, and an LLM focused on the disposal of offshore platforms.
He began his career with TotalEnergies before moving into M&A and business development consulting for oil companies operating in the North Sea and North Africa.
David went on to serve as Vice President in the Oil & Gas ECM and Equity Research teams at the Royal Bank of Canada, later advising Black Marlin Energy on its IPO on the Toronto Stock Exchange. In 2010, he founded Swala Oil & Gas (Tanzania) Limited.
In recent years, David has been active in corporate finance and energy development projects across Africa, Europe, and Australia, while also advising on complex legal matters across multiple jurisdictions.
He joins a growing East African powerhouse at Rive & Co, alongside more than 30 of Tanzania’s most dedicated lawyers; a team representing a synergy of veteran wisdom and dynamic, forward-thinking legal talent.
